Characteristics: Typically have smaller investment amounts compared to institutional investors. They rely on public information and often have limited access to detailed financial data.

Institutional Investors:

Description: Large organizations that invest on behalf of their members. Examples include mutual funds, pension funds, insurance companies, and hedge funds.

Characteristics: They usually invest large sums of money, have access to more detailed financial data, and often have more influence in the IPO process. Institutional investors are typically seen as more sophisticated and are given preference in the allocation of shares.

Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs):

Description: A subset of institutional investors deemed to have significant expertise and financial acumen.

Characteristics: QIBs include entities like mutual funds, banks, and insurance companies that meet specific regulatory criteria, allowing them to access certain investment opportunities not available to the general public.

Anchor Investors:

Description: Institutional investors who commit to buying a substantial portion of the IPO shares before the IPO opens to the public.

Characteristics: They help generate interest and provide stability to the IPO. Their participation can signal confidence in the company’s prospects.

Employee Investors:

Description: Employees of the company going public.

Characteristics: They are often given the opportunity to purchase shares at a discounted rate as part of employee stock purchase plans or similar programs.
